I second Art's recommendation!

I've done quite a few VAN cost-analysis comparisons over the years and I
have yet to come across another VAN/Service Bureau whose VAN prices even
come close to Softshare's. I've usually been able to reduce customer's VAN
costs by at least 50%. Some even as high as 80%! (I dropped on site down
from $104K/ year in VAN charges to $13K! They've now tripled their volume
and it still only costs < $25K year! That was 5 years ago!)

Why so cheap? Too good to be true? Well, simply put, the 'machine' is
efficient and runs very well. And I guess they are not as greedy as the
rest.

And their prices are straightforward - no hidden fees, no monthly minimums,
time of day, its Tuesday so it costs more etc.

And the best thing is that you don't need an actuary to figure out your
monthly invoice!

Walter,

One answer to your requirements is Softshare VAN. They charge by the
transaction (ST), and there is no minimum.

Costs include a one-time setup fee, an annual subscription fee,
per-transaction fees, and a one-time-per-trading-partner interconnect setup
fee. All fees are reasonable.

If you believe you will move a certain number of transactions a year, you
can pre-pay your charges for a significant reduction in the per-transaction
cost, and the annual fee is rolled into the pre-paid amount.

Check them out at Softshare.com, or call me.

Ok, in my never ending quest to get our company off of a VAN (or at
least to severely cut back on VAN transaction costs) and start moving
some trading partner communications to AS2 I am looking to change our
VAN.
Our current van charges us $0.15/Kc but with a $425 monthly minimum.

So even if I start to move off my high-water trading partners I'll
still pay a minimum $425 each month. We only move about 4kc each month
for our business, and this is slowly rising as we are starting to bring
in ASN transactions which we never did before.

I'm looking for a reliable van with a sliding scale charge based on kc
used. I don't think we'll ever get off the van completely because some
of our trading partners are small and cannot afford an AS2 solution.

Any ideas are appreciated.
Walter
