Disney Stores are closing ALL OVER - but not because of bad retail
markets - even though we all know that retail is flat (at best) or
declining (at worst). Chances are, though, if you're a talented
EDI/MIS professional and your company is not hurting to the point of
the entire company closing - you're probably pretty safe...

Disney Stores were "farmed out" to an outside company from the Disney
parent many years ago. Poorly managed and marketed. It was a huge
chain when Disney had it and could maintain it, but the other company
(I forget who it is) couldn't maintain all the locations.... part of
the problem is that TOO many stores in TOO close a proximity... How
many Winnie the Poohs can you sell in one city?

But as to the concept of retail in general - yes, our industry is
slowing and loosing ground. But if your company is solid, then your
job should be solid. You'll still be needed... EDI isn't really one
of those "things" that costs a lot and actually saves money for the
company - so doing away with it would save the company nothing -
unless the company was going, going, gone!

As for your original question - how much and what to put on a resumé -
remember one simple rule - the resumé is supposed to be like "coming
attractions" for a film - or the synopsis of a novel on the jacket - a
quick overview that gets the attention and piques the interest -
making the HR person want to "see the film" or "read the book" and get
you in for an interview.

You SHOULD include some "techie key-words" that will be of use to an
HR manager filling a spot given to him/her by a techie department -
but not so overly techie that they're lost and don't have any clue
what you're talking about...!

There are a number of different styles and layouts you can use. Do
some online research - or even just look at MS Word! - for some
samples and ideas and then just go with it. I know that Word USED to
have resumé "wizards" to help you create a nice document - don't know
if the newer versions still hold true.

One final thing - something every resumé writer SHOULD know and CLAIMS
to know - PROOFREAD that document before sending it ANYWHERE. Nothing
makes you seem more lame and dumb than simple spelling and grammatical
errors... Give your resumé to a friend to look over once you think
you're done.

Good luck!
