Rahul,
No, you can't access your friend's email mailbox, you need your own. And you can't pull from your trading partner's VAN mailbox. It's theirs. You need yours. Their mailbox is simply a gateway into the repository that the VAN maintains. If they placed X12 into their mailbox, and theoretically you could pick it up, what would keep you from also picking up your competitor's X12? The VAN sorts out the transactions based on the ISA receiver id, and places the transaction in the recipient's mailbox, or interconnects it to the recipient's VAN. It is a good system, and it works well. If you are concerned about cost, look around for a lower-cost VAN. You can use FTP directly with your TP, or AS1, which is a form of secure FTP. But if they only use a VAN, you need your own VAN account. My point is that I want to bypass the need to have a VAN at my end. I would like to connect to GXS and import/export the docs (example via FTP). This way TP1 can continue to use GXS as their van. We just need to pick those docs and process them for my client. If I were to use your email analogy, I know party1 is sending email to a certain account. If I wanted to pick such email, I would need to make a POP3 connection to that account. I wanted a POP3 equivalent to connect to GXS to retrieve / deposit documents on behalf of my client. If you want to pick up X12 from them, then you would connect to the VAN, where the X12 would be waiting for you. If you want to pick up X12 sent to GXS without contracting with GXS as your VAN, then you have many choices. Nearly all VANs interconnect, that is to say, if you subscribe to the services of another VAN, e.g. Sterling, Inovis, or my favorite, Softshare, then have that VAN retrieve messages sent to you by somebody who subscribes to GXS as their VAN (or any other VAN, for that matter), the interconnect system will result in your X12 and EDIFACT traffic being forwarded to the VAN to which you subscribe. It's kind of like email. Your friend uses MSN.com to send you an email, and MSN knows to forward your email to TransactionExchange.com for you to read it. So, if your trading partner uses GXS and you use XYZ, then XYZ notifies GXS to send all your traffic, identified by your ISA sender/receiver ID, to them at XYZ and they place it in your mailbox. Hope this helps. I can generate the required Identifier for my client - but how do I connect to GXS and pick-up/deposit the relevant X.12 documents? Thanks in advance. Rahul Naik.
