Since you mention VICS, I'm guessing you're grocery related? You say you have a heavy volume and you're definitely looking at some larger scale translators so far. In order to pick your third from the many emails I've seen flying on this, you need to do a little more evaluation of your own needs. What is "heavy" for example? In some industries, you don't hit "heavy" until you pass 1 million transactions per month, not kc. Do you have time sensitive documents? What EDI experience do you already have (can easily hire)? How will it translate to any of your three choices? Do you need powerful or easy to use? I know Art will tell you Softshare is both, but, really, are you spending lots of time implementing new trading partners or maintaining (troubleshooting) what you've got? Do you need a mapper that's easy to use or is tracking/error resolution most important?
Although I'm hoping you've got some thought into these things, you didn't provide them in your email, so the answers you've gotten are generic and sales pitches. Beware any and all sales people. Know what you need and get your specific requirements down on paper and get them addressed. Oh, and I've used 8 translators over my career and almost every one of them had something it did better (and worse) than the competitors, but, it's what you need that matters. The ones included currently are Sterling Gentran with the GIS AS2 as well as Inovis BizLink for the EDIINT and Transformations (mapper/translator) . A third solution needs to be included in my research. Your comments on a viable option would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you have used any other package and what your experience has been. Also, if you have used BizLink, please let me know abou that as well. If you are located in the Chicago area and would be willing to show me your EDI solution at work, I would greatly appreciate this as well. We are a VICS Ansi x.12 shop with a few AS2 partners and some VAN partners. We have a heavy kc volume.
