Source: http://www.gs1uk.org/GDS/what_is_GDS.asp "What is GDS? "In simple terms, GDS (Global Data Synchronisation) enables product information from one trading partner, such as a supplier, to be made available to any chosen trading partner, such as a retailer, using a standardised process. The information is defined using agreed standards which all parties can understand and can include, for example, product description, price, size, pack, name, address and the quantity of items in a purchase order. "By using this globally accepted system, a supplier enters product information once and all its chosen retailers can then access secure, reliable and accurate information, ensuring greater supply chain efficiencies for all." Call me an old fogey, but seems to me if the "trading partner, such as a supplier" and the "chosen trading partner, such as a retailer" use information "which all parties can understand and can include...in a purchase order" then any <insert brand name here> "certification" is superfluous at best and an excuse for a fee at worst.
