6/17/11 Earlier here I made light of what was being discussed, not realizing our neighbors to the north were referring to the behavior of some so-called hockey fans, not the on-ice performance of the hockey team. I don't watch TV news, so I did know of the post-game rioting which had occured until I read this morning's paper over lunch today.
One hundred fifty (nine police, some with bite marks) requiring a trip to the hospital, fifteen autos (two police) burned and fifty businesses damaged is certainly nothing to make light of; I apologize if I offended anyone by my comments. We (Yanks) used to have this, too; unfortunately the only way we've found to control it is by what is always a well-advertised - and expensive - "enhanced police presence"... with the rubber bullets and fire hoses ready for action. (e.g., an 'enhanced police presence' is scheduled for the Bruins' parade Saturday in Boston). I wish our Canadian friends nothing but the best in identifying and dealing with the offenders and stopping any future incidents before they occur. Michael C. Mattias Tal Systems Inc.
