Sure there are.

Do you have "shipments coming in?" Then SOMEONE can tell you, "What info
I'd like on an advance ship manifest."

Maybe it's a buyer, who needs to know something is on the way - albeit
late - and he does NOT need to order extra of that item from an alternate
vendor to cover shortages.

Maybe it's the person in charge of the warehouse who is going to have to
find room to store all this "stuff" when it gets here in three days.

Maybe it's the person in charge of production, who can count on having all
the raw materials he will need and therefore can schedule a production run
without fear he'll have to stop the line when he runs out of something and
possibly do an additional setup whilst the line employees draw a paycheck
for playing rock-paper-scissors all morning.

Maybe it's Accounts Payable, who would like to know as soon as possible in
advance he or she is going to need cash to pay for this stuff in thirty days
or so.

Maybe it's sales/service, who can tell customers "yes, we have some on the
way so I *CAN* meet your requested delivery date."

Anyone doing these things for your company?

(Have I even mentioned how important I think it is for "EDI People" to
understand their own business? )
