This only comes into play when working with HIPAA documents.  These are
things like the HIPAA implementation of the 837, 835, 270/271, 276/277,
etc.  And, *only* when they are true HIPAA documents (between a payer and
provider for example). You don't really *need* the certifications, but it
helps.  It is kind of like having references when taking a new job.  Do you
*need* a reference?  Without it you might not get the job.

And translators (Sybase's ECMap, for example), compliance validators
(ClarEDI for example), clearinghouses (Emdeon for example) all carry
certifications.
