As someone already said, it's pretty much common sense. As most of us know,
there are layers and layers to the X12 standards which for healthcare have
been further constrained by the X12 TR3s for transactions mandated by law
for health care.

Essentially, it's a structured approach for testing. Useful for the
uninitiated to figure out how to test before moving into production. It was
developed by WEDI for the v4010A1 implementation guides - the first HIPAA
ones - I'm not hearing much about its use for the transition to v5010. I
draw no conclusions about this relative to the industry's delay in
transitioning to v5010 - for which compliance is required by 1/1/2012 - yes,
this year!

Hello Brian,

Rachel would better at answering this one. But, since this never worked for
the 4010 implementation, who knows if it would work. It isn't a bad template
but it all depends on if you are a payer or provider or both in many cases.
The implementation of 4010/5010 leaves so much variation in segment usage
and format that it can only be considered a guideline not a standard IMHO.
You are still plagued with variations in just about every
transaction/segment usage and the only way to sort it is to test it.

It all depends on the application set you are using for input/output of the
data doesn't it? If you can't satisfy the data requirements (input) or
retrieve the required data components (output) you are going to have a major
problem! <smile>!
