If you're considering that kind of throughput with any EDI app, you need to do
some research and find out the proper server (or perhaps multi processor
server) with a serious chunk of memory involved...

I might be (well) worth your time to consider contact the tech support folks of
any apps you want to set up and get their advice/direction on that level of
processing configuration.   I do know this - both GXS and IBM run their servers
as back ends to their VANS and I'd bet they are doing similar (or higher)
levels of processing on a continual basis....

Samantha, Ken and Lowell,

Thanks. We will setup and test both AS2 & sFTP connections and see what works
best for us.

I believe both the options are not going to solve the "batch" issue. Part of
the implementation is to send the data to mainframe which will max out the
GDG's in few minutes. And Sterling Integrator Business Processes may clog the
memory if I try to de-enevelope 1000 interchanges in a minute. I may have to
stage the data and batch it before sending it to mainframe or processing them
in SI.

On the who gets blamed scenario - In the real world of outsourcing each piece
of these moving parts are managed by a team/company. If data is lost, "EDI"
dropped the ball not the F5 load balancer or the DMZ or the internal firewall
etc. It is indeed the "EDI" -:)

Thanks,
Mukund

No problem.  I wish more native english speakers understood that difference,
you have an excuse!

AS2 is much less problematic than FTP.  I switch every partner I can and I will
only use that with the VAN these days.

We use the 997's for reconciliation.  If you set up the system to 1) do the
work 2) if it can't send an error reliably then you can manage exceptions
rather than touch every transaction.

I commented to my admin that I noticed a $10million order last wednesday when I
was looking in the archive for something else.  He asked if I should have been
notified.  I said no, that is exactly how it should be.  I should only hear
about it when there is a problem.  A $10million order that is a non-event is a
marvelous thing.
