I prefer SFTP to FTPS also because its one channel. I sometimes find I get the control channel responding out of sequence with 2 channel FTP (s or not) which results in more errors.
I kind of do my own receipt gathering when I do any sort of FTP though. I do a LIST right after I do a PUT and then I can go back to the log when there is a question. As we all know though, having proof you did something only starts a conversation, it doesn't actually fix anything. When all is said and done AS2 is my absolute favorite communication method. I causes me far fewer headaches than the others and I have that MDN which when missing will always alert me to an error when it happens rather than waiting for someone to say they didn't get something a month later.
