I have en email into their EDI support department, but they normally take a
couple of days to respond. I was hoping to short-circuit that a bit.

That has GOT to be documented by JCP somewhere. Worst case they have a
"vendor EDI support email/phone number" with someone who can 
give you an answer... even if the answer is "it's not a standard formula
check digit, it's (something else)."
