Hi,

the following commit (SVN r14372) breaks Windows boot for me on OVMF
(x64_build):

Add EDKII_VARIABLE_LOCK_PROTOCOL and the implementation in
  MdeModulePkg variable drivers.
Add code in BdsDxe driver to call the protocol to mark the read-only
variables defined in the UEFI Spec.

I'm seeing this with
- Windows 8 Consumer Preview Build 8250
- Windows 2008 R2 SP1

The preceding commit (SVN r14370) works fine. I encountered the problem
at SVN r14393 and tracked it back to SVN r14372.

(For Windows 2008 R2 SP1, my OVMF.fd firmware image includes a CSM build
of SeaBIOS -- it is a requirement for this OS --, but the CSM is
orthogonal to the problem: the CSM is invariably used with SVN r14370
(success) and SVN r14372 (crash).)

The problem is a crash (blue screen of death) during boot.

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Build 8250 doesn't seem give me more than a
laconic BSOD; I took a screenshot.

Windows 2008 R2 SP1 is more friendly, it writes a minidump to the disk.
At the next successful boot & login (which requires switching back to
SVN r14370 of course) a message is popped up with details.

I saved all files under

  http://people.redhat.com/~lersek/edk2.r14372.crash/

should they help with debugging.

Thanks!
Laszlo
