I'm afraid I have no idea about Thunderbird. Last time I knew, it was 
extremely hard to make it send patches cleanly without mangling them, 
and it didn't have the facility to access mail servers by running
'ssh $mailserver exec dovecot'. It was thus fairly uninteresting to me.

Heh. If there are specific technical reasons why you aren't able to 
use Evolution — as opposed to it just being different to what you're 
used to, which I appreciate is a valid reason too — I'd be interested 
to hear them. Especially if I'm just added to Cc on a bug (or RFE) in 
GNOME bugzilla :)

You could try adjusting your mail filters to strip the offending
Reply-To: header as it's delivered. If your mail filters are using 
Sieve, do they support the 'deleteheader' action from RFC5293?
