What version of the MinnowBoard MAX sources did you start from? According to the release notes, there were changes made on the 0.80 version release to support Dual-HDMI display outputs.
If the firmware is based upon an earlier set of sources, then it will probably not have those changes, which seems to be appropriate to your goals. If you are using the 0.80 or later sources, then it will require a more technical and specific of discussion.
