The UCLA Department of Statistics is pleased to announce the
inauguration of a High School Teacher in Residence Program. The
Teacher in Residence will serve a one-year term as a Lecturer in the
Department of Statistics. He or she will teach undergraduate
introductory Statistics classes, serve as a liason with the high
school teaching community, and have opportunities to attend classes
and seminars to enrich his or her Statistics knowledge.

We are very excited to have Gretchen Davis join us as our first
Teacher in Residence for the 00/01 academic year. Gretchen , a
teacher at Santa Monica High School, is a Woodrow Wilson Teaching
Fellow in Statistics, has been recognized as the Santa Monica -Malibu
Unified School District Mentor Teacher and Teacher of the Year. She
has received the 2000 Konold Award for excellence in teaching, and
the Polya award for teaching and service from the California Math
Council. We hope that our department, with Gretchen's help, will
provide a significant contribution to the local high school
mathematics and statistics community.

I would like to ask that you forward this notice to any teachers who
might be interested in spending an academic year with UCLA
Statistics. Our only requirement is that they be experienced in
teaching Statistics (particularly the AP Statistics curriculum).
Interested parties should contact Robert Gould at the address below.
