IMHO, nobody who does not have a good understanding of hierarchical
multiple regression analysis should even consider conducting a path
analysis. If you are up to teaching yourself the essentials of multiple
regression analysis, there are several good texts, some authored by persons
who can, at times, be found contributing to this list. I am fond of E. J.
Pedhazur's "Multiple Regression in Behavioral Research."

If you want just enough to produce the illusion of understanding
path analysis, you might try Keith, T. Z. (1988). Path analysis: An
introduction for school psychologists. School Psychology Review, 17,
343-362.

I'm working on my dissertation proposal and am considering a path
analysis involving five cultural variables. Can anyone suggest a good
introductory text for someone who is quite naive when it comes to
stats (I'm in clinical psych)?
