Recently I believe this list had questions about riskiness of "extreme"
sports, and other sports.  Also, someone has been discussing the
possibilities of discovering a statistical model to predict likely horse
race winners.

These folks at the U of Hertfordshire might know a lot about how to do
both topics.  they may have done it already.
