actually, some schools use full ss ids ... since, it has been determined there that as long as the entire class AGREEs and gives their approval ... then it is ok ... there, i think some have declined to have their ids disclosed but ... if most do ... then they have consented

personally, i think that policy is NOT good ... we should as faculty ... not even want to distribute that sort of id for students given all the bad things that CAN happen when personal info about people is made freely available ...
