Dear readers of EdStat and sci.stat.edu,

As listowner of EdStat, I have two favors to ask of you. As long-time readers know, the newsgroup sci.stat.edu and the e-mail list EdStat are linked -- messages sent to one are automatically forwarded to the other. In an effort to eliminate spam from the EdStat list, all messages sent to EdStat from non-subscribers are bounced to me for approval before going to the list. As a result, every message posted on sci.stat.edu by a non-subscriber to EdStat is forwarded to me for approval. Between spam and legitimate messages from nonsubscribers, I deal with literally hundreds of messages a day. There are two things that some of you could do that would lighten this load for me considerably.

First, if you are a regular poster on sci.stat.edu, I would be very grateful if you would subscribe to EdStat. You can subscribe with a "no mail" option, and you will receive no mail from the list. The fact that you are subscribed should be totally transparent to you. I would be more than happy to add you to the list myself if you give me permission.

Second, for some reason, a lot of messages are being posted to both [EMAIL PROTECTED] (the correct EdStat address) and the address [EMAIL PROTECTED] EdStat will not allow duplicate messages to be posted to the list, so one copy of each message is bounced to me. Before you send a message to EdStat, please check to be sure that you are not sending it to both of these addresses. If you are posting to sci.stat.edu, please DO NOT copy your message to EdStat. (It will automatically be forwarded to EdStat.)

I apologize for this lengthy (and boring) message, but I am being overwhelmed! Thanks.

Jackie Dietz
