what we should be focusing on is WHAT help (if ANY) does a p value ... or p values ... give us during the conduct of some empirical investigation ... in terms of the "bigness" of the effect(s) ... the importance of the effect(s) ... and whether what we have found is of practical value


even if we are able to clear up misconceptions of the technical meaning of p, so we are all on the same page ... i have yet to see any compelling explanations or compelling arguments about how p can help in the above ...

could someone give an example or two ... of how p values have really advanced our knowledge and understanding of some particular phenomenon?
