This is not specific to ltsp. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (lucid) will boot on these CPUs. Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) will not boot. From the 10.10 release notes at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickMeerkat/ReleaseNotes#Linux%20kernel%202.6.35 : "With 10.10 we have also dropped support for i586 and lower processors, as well as i686 processors without cmov support."
