Hi Edward, This is a great question. There are several features in edX that support this kind of capability, but I can see the need to have something more general.
The first feature is the conditional module. This allows the author to show different content to people who have passed an assessment or exam and to those who have yet to do so: http://edx.readthedocs.io/projects/edx-partner-course-staff/en/latest/exercises_tools/conditional_module.html There is also a capability called entrance exams that hides the entire course until a user has passed an initial assessment: http://edx.readthedocs.io/projects/edx-installing-configuring-and-running/en/latest/configuration/enable_entrance_exams.html There is then a capability called pre-requisite courses, which uses course milestones to allow a user into a course at all: https://github.com/edx/edx-milestones Finally, there has been discussion about a feature called content gating. I'm not sure how much has been implemented as yet, but you can read about it here: https://openedx.atlassian.net/wiki/display/EDUCATOR/Gating%3A+Subsection+Gating I hope this helps. - Andy On Fri, Apr 21, 2017 at 11:44 PM, Edward Oneill <oneill.edw...@gmail.com> wrote: > LMS's like Blackboard have a feature called "conditional release." > > This basically means: the user must perform a certain action in order to > access specific content items. > > Usually, this is something like: earn a certain score on a quiz. > > This is extremely useful, because it keeps learners from just clicking > along without actually learning anything. > > I can find zero indication that anyone is working on bringing such a > feature to EdX. > > Is anyone aware of efforts in this direction?
