I assume you are running the smp kernel? Do you have a keyboard/monitor 
connected to it or a console cable? I have about the same class machine 
[with 160gb sata drives in raid-1] and it does not take more then 1 or 2 
mins to boot. However it used to hang on setting up serial console 
[check the archives of this list for more on that.] You can fix that by 
editing the grub.conf.
