And just to follow up as I said I would, we got it working however the problem 
was never identified. Oddly after about an hour of trying things including 
mirroring all the traffic so we could verify from another interface I had the 
network guy unplug the firewall cable from the switch and plug it into his 
notebook so I could send ping up the tunnel and prove that the firewall was not 
stopping anything. This of course worked but the fun part was when he plugged 
the cable back into the switch it all started working and I could reach the 
internal network no problem. Go figure....

For all I know it was a pinched cable that got un-pinched when he moved it.

It works and until breaks I'm going to stop thinking about it.
