p3scan should be running off clamdscan so if it is failing on that  
then make sure clamd is running and working. [Try running clamdscan  
on the command line against a small text file.]

Clam logs are in /var/log/clamav/

That might help track it down. I've not had problem with it but that  
doesn't mean something is not messed up.
