If you can write a shell script that checks if the trunk is registered
you can get Nagios to tell you about it.

All Nagios does is run defined commands (binaries, shell scripts, perl
scripts) and report on the results. Its value comes from the way it
controls the running of those commands and its reporting, management and
presentation of the results.

One weakness Nagios does have is its it basic configuration. Its done
through a number of potentially rather large text files and it can be
difficult to keep track of when you start to run it on a medium/large
sized network. For that reason there are a number of admin tools
(Groundwork, EZNag) that provide web based configuration.

Having tried several of these config tools my preference is OpsView
(opsview.org). Still Nagios at its heart, it provides an excellent admin
frontend and includes some additions such as graphing of results and
very simple installation (especially on Debian based systems).

Regards

Keith
