Shaun I must be missing something here...EFW can act as a DNS server for its internal zone.
It uses dnsmasq which acts as a composite DNS/DNS forwarder/DHCP server. As well as using DHCP leases to populate the DNS server it can also use the contents of a host file (usually /etc/hosts). I don't think it can do zone transfers, or act in master/slave roles so its not suitable for larger more complex networks. I use it routinely for setting multiple aliases for internal systems, and for setting aliases for external systems.
