Comcast used to remember the MAC address of your nic so that you always
needed the same MAC address for a connection. But they stopped doing that
years ago, at least here in the Denver area. 

 

However, if you are changing nics (or devices), you do need to power off the
cable modem each time. Mine's a Motorola. 

 

For Red, I select Ethernet DHCP (page 1/8) -> select the correct nic for red
w/ no mtu or spoof, and dns set to auto (page 4/8)  -> then apply at the
end.

 

A cisco switch in front seems unnecessary - it's not like you can use it for
other devices...
