Both are better depending on your specific demands and taste. In general
optimistic may provide better performance, but also yields more
rollbacks without anything inherently wrong being done. Retry mechanisms
must be used in such cases.
Such is the nature of optimism: it works well in most cases, but fails
sometimes. Pessimism always works, but is boring. :-)
