But servlets do not always have to serve HTML.  I have chained servlets
that product HTML through XSL and servlets that product the raw XML that is
a protocol to other applications.  I have built servlets in the passed that
had as output serliazed Java objects.  They are an excellent solution to
firewall-inhibited environments.  The only drawback is the lack of a robust
message-passing environment.
