The EJB-JAR XML editor I released a week ago is perfect for toying with
DD's as Java-objects. Download from:

And no, I don't think either that there will be an API for container
mgmt at that level. Not public anyway. EJB2.0 will have a container
interface for servers to use, but that's another story.
