Peter,

It's my understanding that the recent OMG approval of their CORBA
Component Model is divided into two parts. One part defines a core set
of component/server capabilities. Implementation of this core set would
support EJB components or components written in other languages. And
extended set of capabilities would support capabilities not found in EJB
at the moment. Thus, if a vendor implements the core set of CCM
capabilities, they will have a server that can support EJB components.

In other words, the CORBA Component Model specification defines a more
generic model than the EJB specification. You should be able to run an
EJB component, without change, on a CCM server, but you could also run a
CCM component written in C++ (or COBOL) on such a server.

As I understand it, some vendors are talking about implementing core CCM
servers, but everyone seems to plan to wait for demand to build up
before going on to the extended CCM specification. At this point, I was
simply trying to find out which companies (and I assume all the
candidates would be companies that already working with EJB servers)
plan to extend their EJB server to support the CCM core. Then I hope to
talk to them off line about their plans and what they see as the
problems involved.

The CCM only passed the architecture board three weeks ago at the San
Jose OMG tech meeting, and hasn't been given an official approval by the
OMG board, so its very early for anyone to be planning this. But I'm
interesting in learning all I can about plans and problems.
