Hi,
First of all I want to say that is THE most bold statement I have heard
around this mailing list (I haven't been registered for that long).
First of all, the J2EE platform is not yet available in Europe, as security
related restrictions disallow SUN from making it available outside the US
and Canada.
Secondly J2EE is a reference implementation, which means that it will most
probably not have all the bells and whistles that you will find in a
production type implementation (clustering, manageability, optimizations at
the cache level, ...).
We are personally working with Weblogic, and I find it a very good
application server with an excellent implementation of the EJB spec.
I am not working for BEA and never did, so this is just my unbiased opinion.
On the other hand I must also mention that I didn't look at a lot of other
EJB servers, except maybe Gemstone which does have a nice architecture, but
I never came around to sizing up one against the other.
I think the main things you have to look for when you choose your EJB
server, is not only EJB, but what do you want to do with the server. Most
EJB containers nowadays are also App servers, which means they support a
variety of things, JSP, JMS, HTTP, ... . So you have to see what your
requirements are, and then make a judicious choice.
With regards to Weblogic again, I must say that they have always been strong
supporters of the specifications produced by SUN, and so I think that they
are a good bet with regards to J2EE compliance and EJB 1.1.

Sun has published J2EE which makes all existing
EJB servers (today) in the market *OBSOLETE*.
Before the release J2EE, the best EJB server was
Jonas from Bull (free form www.bullsoft.com),
not WebLogic.
I worked with Tuxedo in 1995 and 1996. It was great,
but double obsolete now.
