I had a similar problem. What seemed to solve it was after running the J2EE
bat file was to wait 30-60 seconds before running the deploytool.bat. The
J2EE server has to be up and running before the deploy tool is started and
perhaps the server wasn't ready when you started the deploy tool. Hope this
helps.

Subject: j2skdee-beta sample build

Hello,

Has anyone seen this problem ?

I went through the configuration guidelines and most of the Getting Started
instructions that came with j2sdkee-beta install. The document is in
\doc\guides\ejb\html\Started.fm.html.

I compiled all the classes, completed the 12 steps for creating the ejb.jar
file.

On the next step (Deploying the J2EE Application, on page 5), I get to step
2 a. When I select "Deploy Application" from the Tools menu, I get the
following error:

Please connect to a server in order to deploy ConverterApp

Using the Server/Add menu selection doesn't correct the problem either, I
get a slightly different error message saying

Could not connect to johnhogan. Please consult your server
administrator

Any advise on where you think I may have gone wrong would be much
appreciated. Seems like some of the initial config documentation is a
little off. Thank you
