Hello. I have what is probably a newbie question.
I'm examining EJB and AppServers as a possible plumbing
solution. One of the things I strive for is performance
and capacity which is as close to deterministic as
possible. My concern with AppServers is that it seems,
perhaps naively, that in using one I am creating a
system which in providing a number of functions to
clients requires me to understand the interference
amongst the functions in order to understand the
performance characteristics of the system. If true
then it seems that my only recourse is an accurate
characterization of the workload in order to empirically
understand the performance characteristics.
So my questions are, has anyone had a problem in
gauging the capacity of their AppServer based
system? How do others go about doing this? And,
of course, the implied "is this a silly question"
question.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice.
