The VisualAge/WebSphere-combination is great but suffers from several
drawbacks concerning stability. The WebSphere AS is stable but development
in VisualAge _will_ require some hours per week (at least) per developer
because of strange crashes. So weigh these hours against the productivity
gained by using it. And account for it in the project-plan.
Also, the VAJ/WS-integration isn't so cool as it looks in the IBM-demos. The
VAJ has an internal WS which doesn't seem to have the same codebase. The
internal WS is actually working some of the time. :-) (But expect strange
errors.)
The EJB-development environment is pretty cool and the GUI-development is
simply state-of-art (I haven't seen anything better in my life!).
The VAJ IDE is definitely going in the right direction, but has the last
part of the road to go.
WebSphere has better alternatives.
Oh, also, don't expect to get any support on these stuff if your working
outside the US. Here in Sweden IBM sells hard boxes, software is something
they're doing "over there". The support is simply embarassing.
