To continue this digression, I have been programming for nearly 20 years,
and even developed one of the very first visual IDEs. To this day, I have
no use for an IDE. I need a good editor, a good shell, and a good make.

I have found that I can run circles around the IDE guys. Contrary to the
common belief that IDEs increase productivity, I find that they act as a
crutch. Thus, your programmers spend time learning the nuances of the IDE,
as opposed to thinking through the development and release process, as you
are obliged to do with more traditional environments. And I have yet to
meet an IDE that did not add more problems than it solved.

I will admit that I like the nice graphical representations of the overall
project and class hierarchy, and I like the graphical layout assistants.
However, I can get both outside of an IDE, and I do not appreciate how
IDEs tend to have to munge my source code. Intrusive and error prone.

Very sorry for the noise.
