We have a number of customers using WebLogic and WebSphere with our Versant
Enterprise Container to build applications. The predominate theme has been
to use session beans with our Java language interface. Because of the
language interface transparency, you end up accessing your domain as native
Java objects. We have one customer that uses CMP entity beans, mainly for
the finders (although we also have query language support).

The entity bean model works if you consider CMP beans as the entry point
into a graph of objects, finding the root of a graph with the finders, and
using object navigation to access the rest of the tree. Using BMP is way to
much work and overhead and you dilute the power of using an object data
store, namely transparency of your domain model in the back end store as
well as other OO benefits, such as inheritance.

Skip

Subject: EJB and ODBMS

Is someone has already made a design with an appserver and a ODMS?
In particular, have you use
        * Only Session bean,
        * Some Entity bean
        * what type of ODBMS ?
I would like to know what type of problem have you afforded and hwo have you
find a solution
I think the ODBMS are the next generation of Database (after hierachical and
relationnal) and u ?

Do you think the entity bean model is good for the ODBMS ? is it not too
restrictive vs pure object model (eg. inheritance)
Can we build an entire design with only odbms and session bean ?

I am ready to open threads about this topic

Benoit Moussaud
