In my opinion, this is the least compelling argument. By the way,
Rickard berg, whom I believe started this thread and has been
one of the strongest proponents of an API solution, wrote on 22
March 2000:
"I'm not discrediting IIOP. I'm discrediting the general approach, as
it is outdated in the J2EE context (in the CORBA context it is
perfectly valid). As I have stated, my reasoning is not based on the
goodness/badness of IIOP. That is, IMHO of course, irrelevant."
The list response to you from Weblogic, dated 17 March 2000,
does make some negative remarks about CORBA. However, the
main points are not that protocol-based solutions have failed, but
that:
"Java and J2EE owe their success to the API and SPI. Clearly, we
would not be here otherwise. We argue, along with Rickard, that to
stimulate innovation and motivate the progress of the J2EE
specifications, we need to continue the pattern of success with
precisely those approaches."
I bring this up only because I am concerned that the argument for
an API-based solution not be dismissed based on this one point.
By the way, I found your RMI test interesting on its own. Thank
you for contributing it.
