We've been making connections from WLS (versions 4.5.1 and 5.1) to a
remote Oracle8 database using the type 2 OCI driver provided by BEA.
It requires a properly configured Oracle 8 client installation on the
machine that is running WLS.  In other words, if you can access the
database running SQL*PLUS, then you ought to be able to access it
from WLS using the type 2 OCI JDBC driver.

BTW, Most of the initial setup headaches we had were in getting the
Net8 configuration correct.
