this is ok for small projects but if you have applications with lots of
EJBs this gets very inefficient with orion because a code change in one EJB
implementation (not even the interface) requires you to redeploy the entire
application which (even with jikes) takes a while. iterative development is
a pain that way (when trying to fix a bug in an EJB implementation you
spend 80% waiting for the app to redeploy). I think Humphrey's got a point.
We also considered moving more code away from EJBs strictly for that reason
(speeding up the development cycle) after having done a few real world
projects with an all-EJB backend. Especially for web based applications
there are not many things that you cannot achieve with servlets JTA and an
OR-mapping layer without sacrificing good design practices and
maintainability. I'm not against using EJBs. All I'm saying is that I agree
with Humphrey you do pay a price for using them.
