Components are only one part of "OO" (note that Object Oriented as
itself does not exist. We must have OOA or OOD to be actually
meaningful). RUP can be applied to non-OO design and analysis, just like
UML can be. Another part of OOD is about building heirarchical models,
which EJBs do not allow without a great deal of effort. For example, as
a rough guess, about 50% of the design patterns could not be used in an
EJB environment - in particular some of the core patterns of Observer
and Command are impossible to implement. Both these patterns are core to
the J2SE design.
