>From my own experience, I concurr with Doug completely(keep a single src
tree/build tree). I only sometimes use multiple build dirs or multiple
compilation steps whenever I target different JVMs. Also, when
packaging, I resort often to the includesfile and excludesfile
attributes of most ant tasks, to keep things even clearer.

        <jar jarfile="${dist}/lib/CustomerApplet.jar"
             basedir="${classes}"
             includesfile="${src.etc}/packages/customer-applet.files"

excludesfile="${src.etc}/packages/customer-applet-exclude.files"
             />

Then, I keep the patterns in those files:

com/customer/applet/**
com/customer/client/Client*.*

Etc.
