Ekiga for windows is well packaged. Package integrates the right version of GTK. I never had trouble with windows nor linux versions.

Ekiga needs an account to register properly on a SIP PBX as Linphone or X-lite. Configuration is simple. The blocking point is network configuration if you are behind an ADSL box or a firewall.

There is a need for a version of Ekiga which will run on a Windows system just "out
of the box"?
I only have access to Linux and (occasionally) OSX boxes and could not perform
any testing on Windows machines but no one of my friends who use Windows has
been able to set up a working Ekiga, some of them were succesful with Linphone
or Xlite.
I believe that the availability of a SIP softphone whose installation is as
easy as that of Skype will be a big step forward the adoption of SIP as a
widely used standard for VOIP.
On MAC OSX, fortunately, there is an excellent softphone named Telelphone which
is very easy to install.
This is not the case with Ekiga on Windows and, in my opinion, the availability
of such an easy start Ekiga for Windows is a high priority goal.

Best regards,
