Just by way of another useful data source...

For those of us who only know the German names of towns and locations Google
Earth provides instant locations for those on current satellite imagery. I
found my Opa's Bauernhof in Zeyervorderkampen that way (image is in the
Document Library on http://manyroads.info). I have also found other family
properties on maps in that manner. It really makes the places come to life
for me. ;^)

Uwe,

No - I am looking at microfim records of Jews in Elbing from 1812-1871.
Eventually they (Utah) plan to digitize all material but I have no clue when
that might be - I will probably be dead by then. My local branch orders the
films and they can be viewed on readers. You can make a photocopy from the
film ($0.25 a page) but these are much harder to read than the film itself.
I glanced thru the pages I had copied with my family and do not see these
names. These are Jewish families you are searching for? The local branch is
not in my town but I will probably be going in week after next and will
look. I have spent a lot of time pouring over the film and do not recall
these names. That does not mean they are not there tho. Can you suggest any
alternative spelling or give me a hint on years or given names - that might
help. Some of the years are extremely difficult to read as the rabbi had
very small and bad handwriting. Are you saying the FHL in your area has that
capability?

Anyone searching for Jewish family should also sign up for the Jewishgen
mailing list and list your surnames on the Jewishgen Family Finder so that
other researchers may be of help. Unfortunately, some of the info at the
family finder is out of date and you do not know if the person ever received
the message. They have mailing lists for several interest groups as well -
including Germany, Gdansk, etc.

For those of you doing research on non-Jewish families the Mormons have
other films as well. To see a complete list go to their website,
http://www.familysearch.org/, click on library, click on library catalogue,
then place search, then type in Elbing. I have not worked with the other
films. You can also find a complete list of library branch locations at
their website. Here in Ohio they have not pushed their religion at all. In
the states they have branches all across the country.

        Hi Carolyn

Would you look for Krickhahn's ? I know , according to Günther
Mauter in Elmshorn, Germany, there are some. Would also be interested in
all Paten, and relatives.

Is the Mormon Church up to speed, by that I mean coudl you copy
direct into the computer and internet like it is in our town. ?

        Thanks

                Lital,

I tried the website of the mormon church to find a branch of
their family history center for you and did not have any luck. Please let me
know if you are unable to access the film from your location. I have a copy
until mid-April and can renew it indefinitely. I would be glad to try to
send you information on your family(s). I am not the best translator but the
records are fairly straigtforward and I am willing to try.

I would need the surname and any known spelling variations -
altho I can probably figure them out. Also, any given names that you know.

                Carolyn
