Hello Caroline,
This may be of interest to me since I recently found out that I have
jewish roots.
My ggg-grandmother, Charlotte Schikowski, was half-jewish. She came
from the town of
Eckersdorf (* 1824), Kreis Mohrungen, and was married to Elbing-born
Johann Gottlieb Kretschmann.
Unclear is whether her father or mother was Jewish (most likely her
mother, maiden name unkown).
I would like to investigate this further. Your project may shed more
light on this issue.
If you happen to come across the name Schikowski (or Kretschmann)
please let me know.
Off course, I'm more then willing to provide assistance in this
project, provided this can be done via the internet, since I live in
the Netherlands.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Milko Kretschmann.

I have volunteered to help with the transcription of the LDS film of
Jews and Dissidents in Elbing. The film is written in old German
script
and covers birth, marriage and death records from 1812 to 1871. This
would be an indexing project and the resulting index would be posted
on
Jewishgen. If anyone is interested in helping with this project please
contact me.
Thanks,
Carolyn
