The "Elecraft" display is also generated if the PS shuts down (due to excessive current) and drops off for a bit (I have a 3A supply with a current adjust - It works fb with my K2 unless I forget to reset the current limit back to 3. I often set it to 1 to charge LiPo batteries or do other bench work - The first dit resets the PS and the K2).
Sounds like you already found your problem, but the "Elecraft" display can be just a symptom of the PS dropping off.
