Hi Rick,
This is a good suggestion that I've added to my list for the next KX1
firmware revision.
Meanwhile, you can switch to CW ("nor") mode and tune in 1-kHz
increments, giving you 5 "tics" between SW broadcast stations, if that
helps. The only problem with this is the CW offset, which is included
in the VFO display only in CW mode. However, once you tune in any
station, you can switch to 1-kHz steps and the offset to the 100 and
10-Hz digits will be preserved.

I've been having a lot of fun listening to shortwave broadcasts on my
KX1. AM detection is prety decent in USB or LSB and most of the
stations are so close to on-frequency that I rarely have to fine tune.
I just set the DDS to a 5.00 KHz boundary and then set up for 5KHz
tuning increments. It turns into a channelized tuner! Only one problem
- since every tick on the encoder is an increment, it becomes very
touchy. Wouldn't it be nice if you had to turn the knob several ticks
to get it to click over to the next 5 KHz step? Then there would be
some leeway for less than pianist-quality fingers. Am I crazy or
should we ask Elecraft to do this the next time they open up the
firmware for something more important? Or has this already been
discussed and I'm the last to know?
