I've used a Timewave DSP-59+ with a variety of radios from something as basic as a RockMite-40 to Kenwood TS-820 & TS-940 and Yaesu FT-100, all with good success. I haven't started building my K2 yet (it just arrived yesterday) but plan to use the DSP-59+ with it initially as well, and maybe later add the DSP filter option when I have a few extra dollars again. I should be starting to inventory my new K2 parts tonight and start building later tonight or tomorrow.
